PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma)

PRP

Frequently Asked Questions

PRP stands for platelet-rich plasma. Platelet-rich plasma contains up to five times as many platelets in normal blood that circulates in your body. Additionally, PRP has other factors for growth and special proteins that promote hair growth. PRP started mainly with the professional Sports sector and has extended to skin rejuvenation and hair loss.

PRP for hair loss is a non-surgical treatment that is done in our practice. You can expect the treatment to take around an hour in most cases. We start by taking a small sample of your blood and putting it in a certified centrifuge in order to separate the platelet-rich plasma. And then, extract the enriched platelet and reinject them into your scalp.

You will be given small injections of the PRP into your weak hair follicles. The treatment is non-invasive and isn’t painful, making it an easy procedure and one that you won’t need recovery for.

The platelet-rich plasma contains growth factors (such as TGF-beta, PDGF-AB, bFGF, IGF, VEGF, and EGF) and bioactive proteins (globulin, albumin, fibrinogen), nutrients, vitamins, hormones as well as electrolytes. All of that helps accelerate tissue repair and regeneration.

Losing excessive hair can be very distressing and can have an impact on your confidence. Thankfully, PRP hair loss treatment can be effective and potentially a good option. Learn more about Platelet-Rich Plasma treatment for hair loss and hair thinning issues.

In recent years, several scientific studies and clinical trials have shown that the high concentration of platelets in plasma is efficient to regrow hair in both men and women suffering from excessive hair loss, hair thinning, and pattern baldness.

PRP (platelet-rich plasma) for hair loss is a treatment involving taking a small quantity of blood from a patient, and separating out the growth factors and other bioactive proteins using a dedicated centrifuge. The enriched plasma is then injected into the scalp areas at the level of the hair follicle. Consequently, the platelets are rich in growth factors and help stimulate the hair follicles and promote new hair regrowth.

The PRP injection goes across the scalp, approximately every cm, over the area of thinning hair. The technique is meticulous and involves minimal discomfort as we use the mesotherapy technique

PRP is one of the best non-invasive treatments for both women and men suffering from excessive hair loss. Our clients are often amazed when they see before and after pictures as the results are visible.

Additionally, PRP can be used in conjunction with other treatments such as hair transplants.

In most cases 3 treatments with four to six weeks apart. However, this depends on the stage of your hair loss. You may be asked to come back to the clinic for a follow-up appointment, which is usually six months after your initial treatment. Men and women can both have PRP for hair loss.

PRP hair loss treatment works well in treating androgenic alopecia and hair thinning conditions affecting both men and women. Additionally, it is effective for women with so-called traction alopecia. This is hair thinning caused by certain hairstyling, especially too-tight ponytails and heavy hair extensions.

However, PRP will not restore hair loss due to certain medical conditions such as hypothyroidism, lupus, or liver disease. Furthermore, PRP will not work for people who are already completely bald.

In hair loss issues, the earlier you seek treatment the better the outcome.

Several scientific research has shown the benefits of PRP for Hair Loss. Though, It is important to say that PRP treatment for hair loss is relatively new, and more research surrounding this technique is still ongoing.
PRP hair loss treatment works better depending on the quality of the platelets and other growth factors. Leading a healthy lifestyle and not smoking or drinking too much alcohol can affect your platelets. Also, we do however know that PRP treatment is more likely to encourage hair growth in areas of the scalp where there is still a lot of miniaturized hair. It is unlikely to produce positive results when carried out on patches of the scalp that are already completely bald.
We advise on whether you are likely to be a suitable candidate for PRP treatment if we honestly believe there is a realistic chance of success using this technique. If this is not a suitable treatment for you we will give you alternative options. You can always book a free consultation.
